Days Off Calculator Overview ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- For full information, see the USERGUID.TXT disk file included with the calculator. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright --------- The calculator is freeware but is copyright 1992-1995 by David Grant. All rights reserved. What does the calculator do? ---------------------------- It helps you schedule work crews over the 7-day week, by working out how many crew members can have any given pair of days off (Saturday/Sunday, Sunday/ Monday, etc.) and still fill your personnel requirements. It's designed for public transit systems, and uses transit-industry terminology (like "run" for a daily work shift and "operator" for a crew member), but it's easily adaptable to construction, maintenance, assembly lines, telephone coverage, retail work, field supervision, etc. Versions -------- Version 2.1 for DOS requires DOS 2.1 or higher, an MDA or better monitor, and 304K of free conventional RAM. Version 1.0 for Windows requires Windows 3.0 or higher. Installation ------------ The calculator as supplied by Transit Operations Planning and Scheduling is ready to use as is. Simply copy the files to your hard disk (you can even use the calculator directly from floppy disk if you prefer!). If you obtained the calculator from someone other than Transit Operations Planning and Scheduling, the files may be compressed. If so, you will first have to decompress the files following the vendor's instructions. A full installation takes about 880K of disk space. Starting the calculator ----------------------- To use the DOS version, change to the calculator directory; type DAYSDOS and press Enter. To use the Windows version, open Program Manager's File menu; choose Run; type the calculator directory and \DAYSWIN and press Enter. Calculating off-day combinations -------------------------------- Enter the number of runs on each of the 7 days of the week; select the workweek length and calculation strategy. Generating reports ------------------ Choose Report; set the destination (printer, Windows clipboard, or a file name); then choose Summary, Worksheet, CSV, Signup, or Assignment.
